I messed up and thought I had this book on hand, but I don’t right now. So no excerpts here. But. If you ever have the chance to get your hands on Feeding the Monster, by Seth Mnookin, there’s a good story in there about Jed Hoyer and Theo Epstein going to Curt Schilling’s house for Thanksgiving when they were trying to put together his contract prior to the 2004 season. The whole book is great, but that story’s particularly good, and it ends with Hoyer throwing up all over the hotel room (from food poisoning, allegedly?) and Epstein leaving hundreds of dollars for housekeeping in penance.
